Al Wasl to become UAE's first air-conditioned sports stadium
Al Wasl Sports Club in Dubai will become the Arabian Gulf's first air-conditioned stadium under plans to update the facility.
Dubai Sports Council and the club's management hope that by providing air conditioning the venue, and increasing its capacity to 25,000, more people will be encouraged to attend events at the stadium, according to a statement on Wam, the United Arab Emirates (UAE) news agency.
The upgrade was ordered by Shaikh Hamdan Bin Mohammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Dubai Crown Prince and Chairman of Dubai Sports Council.
Shaikh Hamdan's order is in line with the directives of His Highness Shaikh Mohammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai.
If successful, the technology will be applied to other stadiums and sports grounds across the country.
