AJ Hackett takes on Auckland Sky Tower’s SkyJump and SkyWalk attractions

SkyCity Auckland has announced that Hackett Bungy New Zealand is to take over the operation of the Sky Tower’s SkyJump and SkyWalk adventure tourism activities.

Attracting more than 410,000 visitors annually, the Sky Tower is the tallest free-standing structure in the Southern Hemisphere.

The Sky Jump, which involves a 192 metre controlled fall, has seen 150,000 people take the plunge since if began operating in December 2001. The SkyWalk activity, which sees visitors complete a 360 degree circumference of the Tower at 192 metres above the ground, was added in December 2007.

SkyCity Auckland General Manager John Mortensen says SkyCity Auckland is one of New Zealand’s leading tourist destinations, and together with Bungy New Zealand, which operates the AJ Hackett brand, he is confident of being able to offer the very best in adventure tourism right to the heart of Auckland city.

Mortensen explains “AJ Hackett Bungy New Zealand is a world-leading pioneer in adventure tourism and a true Kiwi icon (and) we’re thrilled to have them up the Sky Tower for the upcoming summer season.

“We’ve had 10 successful years working with the SkyJump team, and look forward to an exciting future with Bungy New Zealand. SkyCity Auckland pride ourselves on being a world-class attraction, and through this new partnership we hope to give visitors to Auckland an even better experience.”

Bungy New Zealand founder and Director Henry van Asch says AJ Hackett Bungy New Zealand are delighted to combine one of adventure tourisms most iconic brands with Auckland’s most iconic building.

van Asch states “SkyJump and SkyWalk are excellent products and a perfect fit with Bungy and our company’s long standing philosophy of offering world leading personal challenge experiences.”

Bungy New Zealand Chief Executive David Mitchell says having the chance to work closely with SkyCity off the Sky Tower is fantastic and something the whole team at AJ Hackett Bungy New Zealand are looking forward to.

Mitchell concludes “being able to grow the SkyJump and SkyWalk business while contributing to the further development of tourism in Auckland is very exciting.”
