Air race action returns to Perth
Hundreds of thousands of spectators are expected to gather on the South Perth Foreshore this weekend as the Red Bull Air Race returns to the sky over the Swan River.
Western Australia Tourism Minister Liz Constable said the Red Bull Air Race was one of the worldâs most extraordinary free events.
Speaking in advance of the event, Dr Constable explained âPerth is one of only nine cities around the world to host the Red Bull Air Race, and it attracted thousands of additional visitors last time it was held here.
âThe event is an effective way to promote Perth as imagery of the Swan River and city skyline is broadcast to millions of prospective visitors in more than 100 countries - the race will also be broadcast live nationally this Sunday to thousands of prospective visitors on free-to-air and Pay TV.
Minister Constable said Perth was the only host city with the race airstrip located in the CBD and right in the heart of the racing action, making it a favourite destination for the pilots.
âThis year, local fans will have an Australian pilot to cheer as ex-RAAF jet fighter pilot Matt Hall, who finished an impressive third overall in his Dr Constable added.
The Western Australian Government is sponsoring Hall, who will act as an ambassador for the State at all eight Red Bull Air Races around the world.
