AFL's Geelong Cats purchase local fitness club

Following on from the announcement that they would no longer be accepting any gambling-related revenue, the Geelong Cats have today announced the purchase of a health and fitness club in Geelong.

The Cats have purchased Geelong’s Gym, located across the road from GMHBA Stadium in Newtown, as part of a longer-term strategy to develop new income streams at the club while still creating a positive impact on its communities.

Advising that the opportunity to purchase the gym was one that was in-line with the club’s strategy to exit gaming and improve the lives of the community, Geelong Cats Chief Commercial Officer, Braith Cox stated “Geelong’s Gym, the longest continually running gym in Geelong, presents an opportunity for the club to use their experience in wellbeing, high performance, health and rehabilitation to drive positive outcomes for the people of Geelong.

“The recent sale of our gaming venue and the decision to no longer allow signage promoting gambling at our home games at GMHBA Stadium, have been outcomes that our members have warmly welcomed.”

The Cats will take over operations of the gym later this month.
