Affordable matinees return for the St Petersburg Ballet Theatre’s Melbourne performances

Recalling the days when a mid-week theatre matinee was a special and affordable treat, the producers of the St Petersburg Ballet Theatre’s Australian tour, Andrew Guild and Simon Bryce, are bringing back the event that used to pack theatres during the daytime.

The initiative sees A Reserve seats to the 11am matinee of Swan Lake at the Plenary

Theatre at the Melbourne Convention and Exhibition Centre (MCEC) on Wednesday 24th June priced at the low $59 for all partons.

Explaining the move, Guild stated “the Melbourne season has been an enormous success for us.

“We have already needed to add extra evening performances and when the opportunity came up to squeeze in a Wednesday matinee, we decide to create an opportunity for the many people who just can’t, or won’t, go out at night and those that are budget conscious.

“The amazing A Reserve price is available to everyone and that it includes seniors, schools, students, parents on a day out and shift workers.”

The timing of the new matinee show will allow audience members to leave home after peak hour, enjoy at late lunch and return home before the afternoon rush.

Performing in MCEC’s Plenary Theatre, the St Petersburg Ballet Theatre is renowned globally not just for its beautiful Vaganova trained dancers but also for its stunning, grand, full-length productions.

When the company travels internationally they take the breathtaking scenery and magnificent costumes they are famous for with them.

The 55 member Theatre will be in Melbourne as part of its 2015 international tour, which started in Paris on 8th March at the prestigious Théâtre des Champs-Elysées and also includes upcoming dates in Johannesburg, Cape Town, Singapore and Perth. Following the Melbourne season the St Petersburg Ballet Theatre heads to the Coliseum in London.
