AALARA looks back on 2019 and forward to the New Year

The Australian Amusement, Leisure and Recreation Association (AALARA) has shared a summary of its key activities during the past year and announced that its 2020 conference will be held at the Sea World on the Gold Coast.

In a statement, the Association advised “a big thank you to all AALARA members and our industry associates for making 2019 one to remember and paving the way for an even safer and better industry across the globe.”

AALARA listed some of its highlights from 2019 as being:

• It continuing to grow to be one of the industry’s most respected point of contacts. We have continued to assist our membership with support in varying forms.
• The huge success of its 25th annual Conference and Trade Show which was well attended across all sectors of the industry, with the Association welcoming “international and local VIP guests to make AALARA 2019 one for the record books”.
• The Association being represented at most ASTM international sessions and all IAAPA Global Harmonisation sessions
• Working with regulators to help educate and encourage more engineers into the industry
• Working with insurers to help with the engineers’ professional indemnity issues

The update advised “looking ahead to 2020, we are excited and eager to further assist new and existing members in business prosperity; continue to support our ever-evolving industry; and provide yet another successful Conference in May 2020.”

The 26th AALARA Conference to be held at the Sea World Resort Convention Centre from 18th to 20th May.

Presenting an overview of the industry in a pre-Christmas message, AALARA President, Shane McGrath added “the year has seen some exciting new venues open, thrilling rides and attractions launched along with investment announcements of circa $100 million in Gold Coast theme parks. The impact these capital investments will have on the Queensland visitor economy is substantial and should be commended.

“Most recently your association has been busy supporting a visit to the 2019 IAAPA Conference and Trade Show in Orlando by a delegation from the Queensland Government including the Hon Grace Grace - Minister for Education and Industrial Relations, Tony Cook - Director General of the Department of Education and Sharon Durham - Chief of Staff Minister for Education and Industrial Relations.

“The trip provided an opportunity to hear from the world’s leading experts and gain a global perspective on the industry and its approach to safety and innovation. The delegation addressed the ASTM Global Harmonisation meeting and learnt about the standard development process and approach to continuous revision and improvement.

“I would like to thank Greg ONeill, Mary Stuart and Greg Yong who provide the support and introductions.

“Thank you to all AALARA members for supporting your industry, we look forward to seeing you at AALARA20 Conference.”
