50th club opening marks ongoing growth at Genesis Fitness Clubs
Genesis Fitness Clubs have opened their 50th facility, in the North Queensland city of Townsville.
Located in the recently completed Townsville RSL Stadium, the newly opened 575 metre2 facility is sited on the first level of the arena, behind the corporate boxes.
The club is franchisee Paul Treloar's second Genesis club in the city, and is described as a 'satellite' club for the other, larger Genesis facility.
The milestone club opening is part of a period of major growth for the Genesis clubs, which has opened 12 new clubs in the last 16 months and has plans to open up to 10 further clubs before the end of 2012.
Currently it is pre selling clubs in Parramatta, NSW (due to open in November) and Preston, Victoria (due to open in January), while having confirmed three further sites.
Mentioned as a "noteable player" in the Australian fitness market in the just released International Health, Racquet and Sportsclub Association (IHRSA ) International Health Club Report, Genesis Chief Executive David Lowe stresses that "locally owned and operated clubs" are at the heart of the group's success.
Lowe believes that "our local owners are atuned to what needs to be offered in clubs at a local level" and that "members are more likely to remain loyal to and involve with people connected with the local community."
The group is also undergoing extensive rebranding with a redesigned website, new Facebook presence and the introduction of two new brands within the Genesis family.
GenX will be a 24/7 club offering while, following a franchisee having acquired a body builiding gym, powerGEN will be the group's body building brand.
Explaining the new brands, Lowe adds "each will operate as distinct brands within the Genesis family."
