$4.8 million Federal Government commitment to redevelop Cowra Aquatic Centre

Plans to redevelop the Cowra Aquatic Centre have been boosted after the Federal Government announced a grant of $4.8 million for the project.

Cowra Shire Council has been allocated $4,890,218 to rebuild the Cowra Aquatic Centre taking total funding for the project to more than $8 million.

The project aims to replace the ageing and flood damaged pool infrastructure and modernise the Centre so that it can continue as an important community asset for swimming education and community recreation.

The proposed upgrade of the Aquatic Centre will include a new pool plantroom and filtration, redevelopment of the main and toddler pool, a new splashpad and floodlighting, retractable shades and a clubhouse building.

The funding is being delivered under Round 1 of the Growing Regions Program, which is providing around $207 million to fund 40 new local priority infrastructure projects across the country.

Welcoming the funding, Senator O’Neill, Duty Senator for the Riverina, Calare and Parkes electorates stated "after the flooding in November 2022, it is inspiring to see the community and council come together to make this a priority. The new Aquatic Centre will see major upgrades as well as entirely new facilities for the people of Cowra to enjoy.”

“Infrastructure and recreation services are important to Cowra, and I am proud to be a part of a government that is willing and ready to support this community.”

Advising that the redevelopment of the Centre will enhance town pride, Cowra Shire General Manager, Paul Devery told the Cowra Guardian "with the combination of Commonwealth funding, State funding and council funding the Cowra community will benefit from an $8.5 million upgrade to the Cowra Aquatic Centre over the next three to four years".
