Murwillumbah’s 50 metre pool reopens for summer season
Tweed Shire Council has this week opened the 50 metre outdoor swimming pool at the Tweed Regional Aquatic Centre’s Murwillumbah complex.
While the 50 metre pool and childrens’ leisure pool are ready to welcome back swimmers, the giant hill slide and barbecue areas remain closed until further notice - still impacted by damage sustained in the massive downpour of 28th February year, which saw incredible volumes of stormwater pour down Hospital Hill and into the pool.
Explaining that it was great to see another facility back up and running post-flood, Mayor of Tweed Shire, Chris Cherry stated “we know the community are just as excited as we are to see the pool refilled and open for summer.
“Council would like to thank all of the pool users for their patience while repairs were completed following the floods earlier this year.”
Tweed Shire Manager Parks and Active Communities, Murray Smith said it was great to provide a place once again for the community to be active and healthy, adding “Murwillumbah’s 50m pool is a key facility that provides the community with a chance to stay fit and active and we are pleased to welcome patrons back to enjoy the outdoor pool once again.
“We are also thrilled our local schools will have a place to host their school carnivals for the summer season.”
The Council has advised that several school carnivals have already booked the 50 metre pool during December and is encouraging the community to check for any updates on times when the pool may be booked out for a carnival and is unavailable.
