30 National Parks and Wildlife Service firefighters recognised for long service
NSW Environment Minister Mark Speakman has congratulated 30 NSW National Parks and Wildlife Service firefighters for their long service at a recent ceremony.
The National Medal was awarded to 16 firefighters for 15 years of service, 13 Clasp awards were presented for 25 years of service and one firefighter was recognised with a second Clasp for 35 years of service.
Commenting on their contribution to national parks, the environment and the community, Minister Speakman stated “I am delighted to be able to say thank you to our National Parks and Wildlife Service firefighters for their contribution to protecting communities in NSW, Australia and abroad, when they have been called upon.
“Together this group of firefighters has more than 600 years of experience.”
The National Medal was established in 1975 as one of the original elements of the Australian system of honours and awards.
Minister Speakman added “these National Parks and Wildlife Service firefighters deserved to be recognised for having put themselves at risk to protect lives and properties over the last 15 or more years.”
The hazard reduction and firefighting efforts of this group of firefighters has helped to protect the people of NSW for decades.
Minister Speakman concluded “these firefighters have fought fires in NSW, Victoria, South Australia, Western Australia and abroad in the US and Canada.
“And they have mentored, guided and supported local communities in NSW to prepare for fires.”
