Improved basketball, netball and pickleball courts for Sydney's Northern Beaches community use

Sydney’s Northern Beaches Council has upgraded facilities allowing basketball, netball and pickleball to be played concurrently at Forestville War Memorial Playing Fields as well as Lionel Watts Reserve, Frenchs Forest.

Of the six courts at Forestville, named Margaret Cliff Courts after one of the pioneers of netball on the Northern Beaches, new markings will allow two of the courts to be converted to both basketball and netball use, with one already operating as a dual court.

Of the remaining three courts, two have new pickleball markings installed and are located on the middle and eastern side allowing six games of pickleball to be played simultaneously.

While the six courts located at Lionel Watts Reserve currently have four dedicated basketball and netball courts, installation of netter brackets will mean all courts can be easily converted for junior netball play.  The two remaining courts (located next to the skate park) have also been newly marked up for casual pickleball use.

The project aims to meet the growing demand for recreational opportunities and provide residents of all ages with access to high-quality facilities for physical activity and leisure.

Whether it's a friendly social game or organised league, these courts will accommodate players of all skill levels with junior netball players particularly benefiting.

Providing more multi-use courts aligns with the outcomes of Council’s 2022 Recreation Strategy to enhance the quality of life for residents and promote active, healthy lifestyles. By investing in recreational infrastructure, Council aims to create vibrant community spaces that bring people together and contribute to the overall mental and physical well-being of community.
