$30 million Salisbury Aquatic Centre opens to the public
South Australia’s City of Salisbury has opened its new $30 million aquatic and recreation centre to the public.
Members of the public were able to enter the new Salisbury Aquatic Centre as of 5.30am yesterday morning, making use of the facility’s wide array of indoor features available year-round including a gym, four-lane lap pool, program pool and a café that serves barista coffee and healthy food options.
As the seasons turn, from October, partons will have access to additional summer season facilities, including an eight-lane, 50-metre outdoor pool equipped with a shaded area, a comprehensive water play area featuring a large splash pad with a tipping bucket, three junior slides, and a 10-metre high triple waterslide tower.
The Centre’s outdoor space also includes a lawned picnic area and a kiosk designed for family outings and community gatherings.
The new Centre incorporates several inclusive and convenient features to ensure accessibility for all members of Salisbury’s diverse community. It also includes heating and access ramps in all pools, secure locker storage, and a hearing loop for those with hearing impairments. The bathroom facilities are ample and include a family change room and changing places for those who need them.
In line with modern sustainability practices, the Centre has been fitted with solar panels, LED lighting, water-efficient toilets and showers, an all-elect image facility, and lawns irrigated using Salisbury Water administered by the Council.
Construction of the Centre was managed by Mossop Construction + Interiors and was jointly funded by the City of Salisbury and the South Australia Government through the Local Government Infrastructure Partnership Program.
It also received funding of $1.5 million from the Australian Government’s Local Roads and Community Infrastructure Program for the development of the entrance road and car park.
Centre manager BlueFit has already opened enrolments for their Learn to Swim program and is offering Foundation Memberships that provide unlimited access to the gym and aquatic facilities, including group fitness classes and functional training.
Welcoming the opening, City of Salisbury Mayor, Gillian Aldridge stated “the City of Salisbury is thrilled to unveil the brand-new Salisbury Aquatic Centre. With modern features catering to everyone, it stands as a symbol of progress, inclusivity, and vitality.”
Commented on the Centre’s operations, BlueFit General Manager, Brett McEwin stated “our local team are looking forward to delivering a diverse range of health, fitness and aquatic programs, and are excited by the opportunity to position the Salisbury Aquatic Centre as the premier leisure facility in the City of Salisbury.
“We cannot wait to … welcome the local community to the new Salisbury Aquatic Centre.”
