2019 Life Saving Victoria Pool Safety Summit sees launch of State of the Sector report
Life Saving Victoria's recent hosting of its eighth annual Pool Safety Summit, was attended by more than 200 aquatic and recreation industry representatives.
Held in the middle of last month, the Summit was intended to review, discuss and plan the future of public pools and aquatic safety and address a selection of current industry challenges.
Four key announcements were made at the Summit, covering:
• The 2018/19 LSV/ARV Victorian Public Pools State of the Sector Report
• The SwimSafe Campaign - now available to the industry
• The LSV Champions Program
• Watch Around Water Online Learning to be made available this summer
Expert industry speakers from across the country presented on a range of key topics in an informative and progressive format.
Taking an all of Industry approach, topics included:
• The updated Public Health and Wellbeing Regulations 2019
• Occupational health and safety management systems (ISO 45001) applied in aquatic centres
• NSW Coronial inquest into a drowning of a young boy in a public pool
• Vulnerable swimmers research and the launch of: SwimSafe – a safety campaign targeting adult vulnerable swimmers
• Emergency planning
• CALD recruitment and engagement
In addition, industry awards were also presented for:
• Harrison Tanner - Pool Lifeguard, Ascot Vale Leisure Centre, managed by Belgravia Leisure
• Andrew Antic - Pool Lifeguard, Ascot Vale Leisure Centre, managed by Belgravia Leisure
• Jayk Burgess - Duty Manager, Ascot Vale Leisure Centre, managed by Belgravia Leisure
• Erith Nash - Duty Manager, Ascot Vale Leisure Centre, managed by Belgravia Leisure
• Luke Vesnaver - Exercise Physiologist, Ascot Vale Leisure Centre, managed by Belgravia Leisure
• Bradley Norton - Pool Lifeguard Course Candidate, YMCA Victoria
• Robin Sadler - Pool Lifeguard Course Candidate, YMCA Victoria
• Stewart Nicoll - Life Saving Victoria Pool Lifeguard Trainer
Each of the presentations recognised the great work of Victorian aquatic industry personnel whose quick actions contributed to saving a life.
