Life Saving Victoria launches inflatable pool off Williamstown
Life Saving Victoria (LSV) used the last of Victoria’s warm weather before Easter to test and trial an innovative six-lane, 25-metre inflatable swimming pool, built by Aflex Inflatables.
Gaining positive feedback from the community, the inflatable pool, which has a mesh bottom, was launched into waters at Williamstown beach in the week before Easter in partnership with Williamstown Swimming and Life Saving Club.
Excited to see LSV leading the way in developing innovative and practical solutions for people accessing open waterways safely and believes everyone should have the opportunity to learn to swim, enjoy the water and be safe in open waterways, LSV Chief Executive Dr Nigel Taylor stated “our ultimate goal is to reduce and prevent drowning death and injury and the inflatable pool is another way we can encourage active participation in open water, whether it be for swimming, education or sport.”
The inflatable pool has been developed and trialled to bridge the gap between swimming at a pool and in open waterways.
Dr Taylor advised “with many regional aquatic facilities needing rejuvenation, we think the Inflatable Pool could be key for these communities to have access to safer, more controlled open waterways to learn swimming and be physically active while also creating local employment opportunities.”
LSV’s Manager of Strategic Projects Trudy Micallef, is responsible for taking the Inflatable Pool from concept to reality and is excited to see where the pool will pop up next.
