2015 Adelaide Festival of Arts to feature spectacular digital light show
The Festival Theatre and the River Torrens precinct in Adelaide will be transformed into canvases for a digital light show as part of the 2015 Festival of the Arts.
Last week's program launch revealed there will 150 performances across 42 events alongside the massive digital art and sound installation Blinc, which will open the festival on February 27.
The international digital art exhibition is expected to transform the entire Torrens Riverbank and Festival Theatre precinct into canvases featuring video, 3D-motion graphics, animation and mapped projections for the 17 nights of the festival.
Over 30 digital artworks from 28 international artists will be displayed over a dozen locations across the city.
In his third year as artistic director David Sefton said Blinc would be the most ambitious public art event the festival had ever presented.
Sefton told the ABC "we're talking mind-blowing digital technology with Blinc.
"To present a free event of this scale is a massive commitment from the festival and one that I believe will be enjoyed by hundreds of thousands of festival-goers."
Next year's festival will feature 22 Australian premieres and 26 events exclusive to Adelaide.
Highlights of the program include Danny Elfman's Music from the Films of Tim Burton, a tribute to their 30-year partnership featuring a full symphony orchestra and choir.
The program also includes the exclusive world premiere of Tommy, a reimagining of The Who's double-album by the composer and lead performer Eric Mingus and producer Hal Willner.
The festival runs from 27th February to 15th March.
