2011 Start for F1 in India
Bernie Ecclestone, Chief Executive of Formula One Administration, has confirmed that India will host its first ever F1 Grand Prix in 2011.
Fears had arisen over delays in the commencement of construction of the new circuit on the outskirts of Delhi. Construction work on the circuit had been scheduled to begin in October 2008 but has been delayed to the middle months of 2009, with completion expected at the end of 2010.
A preliminary deal made in 2007 between the Indian Olympic Association and Formula One Management had anticipated India would host its first race in 2009
Speaking to the BBC Asian Network, Ecclestone said that plans were still on track for the country to host its first Formula One event, stating âit's a large country with a big population, and it's good for the sponsors, car manufacturers and everyone involved in Formula One."
Ecclestone added that all the parties involved are "fully committed" to the project.
