17th FINA World Championships venue wins at International Sport Awards
The 2017 FINA World Championships’ high diving competition venue was chosen as the Sport Venue of the Year at the 2017 International Sport Awards.
Presented at the end of last year, the award was for the temporary Myrtha pool installed on the bank of the River Danube in the Hungarian capital of Budapest.
The 17th edition of the FINA World Championships took place in Budapest from 14th to 30th July, with athletes, the media and FINA sponsors highlighting that the Championships were the best edition of the last few years.
For the very first time in the history, a temporary pool hosted high-diving competitions.
The solution made the high diving competitions a real show by allowing for underwater shooting and giving the audience a chance to see the performance in the water. In addition, diving into a well-defined water surface made the platform rip more precise and calibrated.
The World Championships’ main venue was the Dagály Swimming Complex, known as the 'Palace of Pools'.
Built alongside Budapast’s thermal pools, the new venue has been recognised for its eco-friendly design featuring geothermal energy technology and several thousand metre² of HT ceramic tiles made in Germany by Agrob Buchtal.
Oliver Huss, Managing Director of Australian Agrob Buchtal distributor Ceramic Solutions, recently visited the Dagály Swimming Complex and was able to observe the 50 metre competition pool, 50 metre warm-up pool, 25 metre diving pool and 12.5 metre leisure pool, all showcasing Agrob Buchtal Chroma pool tile interiors and Quantum ceramic tile concourses.
Both tiles provide the facility with anti-bacterial benefits, reduced water scum lines, easy floor cleaning surface and significantly improved indoor air quality.
Among the 12 Awards presented at the 2017 International Sport Awards, Catapult Sports was the winner in the Sport Innovation category.
