Zumba returns with new non-dance high intensity workout

Dance-fitness program innovator Zumba is looking to redefine high intensity workouts through music with the launch of its new ‘STRONG by Zumba’ class.

This all-encompassing one-hour group exercise class combines body weight, muscle conditioning, cardio and plyometric training moves, all synced to original music designed to match every single move.

A Zumba statement introducing the program explains “the beat acts as the ultimate motivator, so that means more burpees, squats and lunges while toning arms, legs, abs and glutes.

“(But) what differentiates STRONG by Zumba® from other HIIT workouts is the unique relationship of syncing music to movement.

“The songs created especially for these classes are reverse-engineered to match every move in class, pushing participants past their perceived limits so music is not just an afterthought. This is a first in fitness where routines are elevated through music to maximise the workout.”

According to Professor Costas Karageorghis of Brunel University in the United Kingdom, listening to the right music might improve your performance by as much as 15%.

Alberto Perlman, co-founder and Chief Executive of STRONG by Zumba explains “that 15% is the last few reps, the reps that matter most, the reps that actually get results.

“The process and time we spend on creating the right music allows us to craft a workout experience that pushes students harder in class and really achieve that afterburn.”

STRONG by Zumba® is collaborating with music masters around the world, including Grammy-winning super producer Timbaland and EDM girl duo Krewella.

The specially-designed music incorporates rhythms and beats that get your heart pumping, including dubstep, drum and base, techno, house, and even lesser known rhythms like moombahton.

STRONG By Zumba® classes will be available at Crunch Fitness gyms around Sydney and in Melbourne, plus UFC GYM in Alexandria, from 3rd July 2017.
