Zoos SA embraces the ‘crappiness’ of 2020

Zoos SA is embracing the ‘crappiness’ of 2020 with the launch of ‘Brown Thursday’ - the prelude to the more traditional sales of Black Friday (or Black and White Friday in Zoos SA’s case) – with the launch of a one-off competition inviting people to nominate a person who they think deserves to shovel ‘sh*t’.

The competition launched by Zoos SA - the conservation charity, which runs Adelaide Zoo and Monarto Safari Park, is considered to be “the perfect chance to repay an annoying loved-one, that moaning work colleague or simply because we all deserve a laugh.”

Zoos SA Chief Executive, Elaine Bensted joked “as a conservation charity, our mission is to connect people with nature, and shovelling the sh*t of a threatened Southern White Rhino is certainly one way to do that.

“At the end of the day, this has been a hard year for us all - Zoos SA included.  We hope this way of supporting us perfectly addresses the need to have a good laugh but at the same time, remind people that conservation is still in need too.

“We invite you all to nominate a person (or more) who they think deserves a sh*tty gift!

“We really hope that people get behind us with this one-off competition and we can’t wait to see the entries pile in.”

Zoos SA advise that “one lucky (or should that be mucky) winner and a friend will spend a few hours at Monarto Safari Park, home to endangered and threatened species, helping a keeper to shovel up the brown stuff.

“From large middens to smelly little turds, the ‘winner’ and friend will get to shovel a selection of the smelliest dung around. And, when they’re not shovelling they’ll get a unique behind the scenes look at the safari park that is home to many endangered and threatened species including Southern White Rhinos, lions, giraffe, chimpanzee and a host of native species.”

Continuing the ‘brown’ theme, Zoos SA is also offering sh*t gift certificates – a way for people to truly give an actual sh*t about conservation.

Bensted adds “Animal-themed gift certificates complete with a fun animal poo graphics are priced at $10 to $100 and are available to gift hunters looking for something uniquely crappy yet happy to give to loved-ones this year.

“The cards will feature animal dung from The Regent Bowerbird, Meerkats, Southern Hairy-nosed Wombats, Giant Pandas and the Southern White Rhino. The cards will also feature cheeky messages relating to giving a crap about conservation.

“Mindful that some people might not like the 'S word' we are also making cards with more family-friendly language.

Following Brown Thursday is, naturally, Black and White Friday named after Giant Pandas Fu Ni and Wang Wang which will see Zoos SA delivering a range of deals for animal-loving shoppers who are searching for bargains.

During its Black and White Friday sale, starting 9am Friday 27th November, Zoos SA will be offering 15 months membership for 12 months, 50% off Panda & Friends at Adelaide Zoo when you book two tickets (only tickets not vouchers) and 20% off all retail for members and 10% for general public – lasting until 5pm Monday 30th November 2020.
