Zelbrite Filter Media technology reduces aquatic centres’ water use during filtration
While the drought affecting many parts of Australia may have slipped from the news headlines, it remains a reality across significant areas of the country with, in some regions, local governments and operators even considering that water shortages might prevent seasonal pools from reopening for the summer season.
To reverse this threat and help pools reduce their water consumption, Zelbrite Filter Media is offering an alternative that can help facilities’ old style gravity filters and high rate pressure filter.
Zelbrite is an advanced filtration material that outperforms the traditional pool filtration mediums of sand and diatomaceous earth.
It is manufactured from zeolitic material - formed as a result of volcanic activity – and sourced from a mine at Werris Creek in NSW. As a natural product its hardness will see it last twice as long as sand.
With, clinoptilolite, its key active ingredient, Zelbrite brings advanced filtration features that produce superior water quality and economic benefits for aquatic facilities.
Its water saving capabilities derive from its large surface area which extends the period between backwashing. When backwashing is then undertaken it then does it in half the time, resulting in not only less top up water but also less water to chemically treat and heat.
When used in old style gravity filters using the right grades of media it will improve the turnover rate by a minimum of 30%.
Tested by the Australian Water Quality Centre, results show that Zelbrite will filter down to 2 microns - which will remove both Giardia and Cryptosporidium.
It is also the only filter media that is recognised by the Smart Approved WaterMark, the Save Water initiative (www.savewater.com) and the Water Corporation of WA’s Waterwise program.
