Yas Waterworld takes home World Waterpark Association's inaugural Leading Edge Award

Yas Waterworld Abu Dhabi - the brand new waterpark set to open at Yas Island by the end of this year - took home the World Waterpark Association's inaugural Leading Edge Award at a special ceremony held recently at the World Waterpark Association's Annual Show, in Las Vegas, USA.
The award was received by Yas Waterworld Abu Dhabi General Manager Mike Oswald.
The Leading Edge Award recognises park and supplier members who, through their combined efforts, have brought a project, product, service or program to fruition, thus creating industry innovation and leadership.
The Leading Edge Award is nominated by World Waterpark Association (WWA) members and industry dignitaries and is reviewed and selected by the Board's Nominating Committee. Nominating Committee members represent waterparks of varying sizes within different locations, in addition to innovative suppliers.
In his citation on the criteria leading to Yas Waterworld Abu Dhabi's nomination and win, WWA Board of Director's Vice Chair, Jim Basala stated "each year the World Waterpark Association polls its membership in search of projects that stand at the forefront of the water attractions industry.
"This year, the inaugural WWA's Leading Edge Award was created to acknowledge collaborative projects that demonstrate industry leadership and innovation. Yas Waterworld Abu Dhabi has been recognized for demonstrating this leadership and innovation through its storyline, park and ride design, theming and attention to every detail.
"The commitment to developing a sustainable operation was further appreciated by the WWA Nominating Committee. In short, Yas Waterworld is an incredible waterpark that will inspire everyone in the industry."
Commenting on the win, Mike Oswald added "we have tried to do something really different and special at Yas Waterworld Abu Dhabi and it a huge honour to have those efforts recognized by our peers from the international water attractions' industry. To win this award even before we officially open our doors is just one more reason for visitors and the industry at large to look forward to what we have in store."
Built on 15 hectares of land in the heart of the UAE's premier leisure destination Yas Island, Yas Waterworld Abu Dhabi has been developed by ALDAR Properties PJSC and is operated by Farah Leisure Parks Management L.L.C.
The water park's unique theme centers around 'The Legend of the Lost Pearl' - an original story about 'Dana', a young Emirati girl, on a quest for the legendary pearl that had once brought prosperity to her village. Visitors can look forward to more than 43 exciting rides, slides and attractions - including four one-of-a-kind rides that have never been seen before at any other park in the globe.
