Yas Island waterpark to open by year end

The highly anticipated Yas Waterworld Abu Dhabi is set to open its doors only in the fourth quarter of 2012.

The US$163 million water park, developed by Abu Dhabi real estate development and management company Aldar, was recently introduced to delegates at the Arabian Travel Market in Dubai.

Yas Waterworld will boast 43 rides, slides and attractions that follow the adventures of the waterpark's main character Dana, a young Emirati girl in search of a legendary pearl which brought prosperity to the people of her village.

Nearby, Yas Mall, a super regional mall, is set for completion in the third quarter of 2013.

Already home to the Yas Island Circuit, which has hosted the Formula One Abu Dhabi Grand Prix since 2009, and the Ferrari World theme park, Yas Island is the site of a US$36 billion development project by Aldar Properties.

Explaining the development Aldar Properties Deputy Chief Executive Mohamed Al Mubarak stated "we are particularly excited about the newest member of the Yas Island family. Yas Waterworld Abu Dhabi will provide an important addition to the attractions on offer."
