Yarra’s Cambridge Street Reserve doubles in size

The City of Yarra’s Cambridge Street Reserve has doubled in size offering the Collingwood community larger green spaces for play and recreation.

Collingwood has the lowest level of public open spaces within the City of Yarra, so this upgrade will ensure more people in Melbourne’s inner north can enjoy more space to gather, have picnics, play, or relax.

The City of Yarra received $1.3 million from the Victorian Government to help design and construct the park, which offers visitors new seating, play equipment, art installations, and better connections from Peel Street and neighbouring apartments.

Victorian Minister for Environment Steve Dimopoulos announced the opening of the revamped park, which is the latest open space delivered from the State Government’s $315 million Suburban Parks Program.

There are already 22 new pocket parks currently being enjoyed by Melburnians, with another seven pocket parks under construction.

To date, 97 new and upgraded open spaces have been delivered through the Suburban Parks Program, and there's more on the way thanks to a $7.4 million investment in the Victorian Budget 2023/24 for new and upgraded parks and playgrounds.

Once complete, the Suburban Parks Program will create up to 6,500 hectares of new parkland, walking trails, bike trails, pocket parks and dog parks – the equivalent of more than 170 Royal Botanic Gardens.
