World's top stadium builders on Perth shortlist
Three consortia of the world's top stadium builders - responsible for projects including the London Olympic Stadium, Adelaide Oval and Singapore Sports Hub - have been shortlisted for the right to bid for the design and construction of the new Perth Stadium.
Western Australian Premier Colin Barnett said he was impressed with the world-class calibre and depth of the companies which had been shortlisted to progress to the Request for Proposal Stage for the Design, Build, Finance and Maintain (DBFM) contract.
Premier Barnett explained "the three consortia are WESTADIUM (led by Brookfield Financial and John Laing), Confidem (led by Capella Capital) and WestAdium (led by Bouygues and Plenary Group.
"The consortia will now have the opportunity to work with Government on their detailed plans for the stadium and sports precinct to ensure they meet the State's requirements. Detailed, fully costed proposals will be submitted in November 2013."
Western Australian Sport and Recreation Minister Terry Waldron said the stadium steering committee had been working closely with a range of user groups to work out what the public wanted, adding "after extensive consultation with a range of sports groups, sports fans, the general public and other stakeholders, we are confident of providing the consortia with the best advice to ensure we get a world-class stadium.
"The driving philosophy behind the stadium is putting fans first and this will continue to be the State Government's focus."
The new Perth Stadium is due to open in time in early 2018.
