World Leisure Day returns for second year
The World Leisure Organisation has announced its World Leisure Day initiative will be celebrated all around the globe on 16th April.
Being coordinated by the World Leisure Center of Excellence (WLCE) at Vancouver Island University the second edition of the day is being coordinated by the World Leisure Center of Excellence (WLCE) at Vancouver Island University.
World Leisure Day will feature a range of formats to highlight the importance of leisure, in all its forms - recreation, sport, tourism, arts, culture and education - with activities to be held both in-person and virtually.
In a statement, the World Leisure Organisation (WLO) advised “(WL Day) aims to reinforce leisure as a social right and its importance in daily life, as well as to expand its possibilities of manifestation and promote reflection on the accesses and barriers that still exist for many people around the world."
This second edition of World Leisure Day comes in the years that the WLO celebrates its 70th anniversary.
WLO has been promoting leisure as integral to social, cultural, economic and sustainable environmental development worldwide since 1952. As a member driven organisation with a worldwide representation, WLO and for 70 years has been achieving its mission, vision and goals through its programs and activities that are developed according to four main strands: advocacy, research, education and knowledge transfer.
WLO explains that "this year, with new goals in the horizon, and despite the global challenges that organisations and individuals are facing, our efforts and dedication will assure that the road to advocate for leisure worldwide, with your company, will be a great drive."
