Works set to begin on City of Rockingham’s Baldivis Sporting Complex

The construction of a new community sport precinct in Baldivis is set to begin, with the Western Australian Government providing $1.5 million towards the complex’s first cricket and AFL ovals.

The Baldivis Sporting Complex is a major project for the City of Rockingham, which will provide the growing local population with access to new grassroots sporting facilities.

The construction of ovals is part of stage one of the development. Further stages are expected to include pavilions, an indoor recreation centre and outdoor courts, as well as passive recreation spaces and an area specifically for young people.

The estimated overall cost for stage one of the City of Rockingham-led project is $17.5 million, plus the $9.7 million cost to purchase land.

The new ovals are funded through the Western Australian Government’s Community Sporting and Recreation Facilities Fund (CSRFF), which delivers millions of dollars each year to grassroots clubs to build quality local sporting infrastructure.

The CSRFF helps to foster healthier and more connected communities by providing better places for people to play sport and recreate, while also providing project work for WA businesses and creating local jobs.

The Baldivis Sporting Complex project is one of 22 throughout Western Australia to receive a share of more than $8.2 million in the latest funding round.

Commenting on the project, Western Australian Sport and Recreation Minister Mick Murray stated “the City of Rockingham should be commended for their vision in developing the Baldivis Sporting Complex project - looking long term to provide quality sporting facilities for local people.

“Community sport and recreation is vital for getting people of all ages out and about and staying physically and mentally fit and healthy, and the State Government is delighted to have been able to contribute to these new ovals.”

“Baldivis is one of the fastest growing sporting communities in Australia and this project will help meet the extraordinary demand for playing grounds, outdoor courts plus indoor courts and other facilities.”

The fund has two rounds of small grants each year that open in February and July, and one larger grant round that opens in June.
