Works almost complete at City of Joondalup Leisure Centre - Craigie
Major improvements to facilities at City of Joondalup Leisure Centre - Craigie, worth almost $500,000, are nearing completion.
An upgrade of the facility's entrance has improved access to the centre by providing a continuous path from the car park and ACROD bays, as well as the establishment of three designated set down and pick up bays.
Two self-service kiosks from Links Modular Solutions have been installed to enable leisure centre members to book in to group fitness classes without queuing at reception.
Changes to access of the aquatic facilities have resulted in improved radio frequency identification scanning and greater access for prams and wheelchairs.
A partial roof replacement was undertaken above the four sports courts and function room areas.
Joondalup Mayor Troy Pickard said the City had made a significant investment to enhance the outstanding facilities and customer service at the leisure centre for both members and customers.
Mayor Pickard explained "Craigie is our premier leisure centre and as such the City is keen to ensure services and the facility is maintained at a very high standard.
"More than 8,000 members attend group fitness classes each month, and they will now have the option of using self-service kiosks at the Centre.
"This exciting new technology eliminates the need to book for a class at reception, where the popularity of the Centre means there is often a high degree of patronage.
"There are also plans to shift Learn to Swim and short course enrolments to an online system, but customers still have the option of booking into programs, classes and services at reception.
"Sport and recreation is an important part of our community and the City aims to foster opportunities for its residents to lead active and healthy lifestyles."
The City' s Leisure Centre at Craigie is one of Perth's most popular recreational facilities with over a million attendances recorded in the 2012-13 financial year.
