Work commences on expansion of Geraldton Cycling Network
Construction of Western Australia’s $4.24 million Geraldton Cycling Network Expansion Project is now underway with work commencing on the $220,000 Glenfield Beach Drive Shared Path.
The 360 metre long, 3 metre wide shared path will be the first stage in providing Geraldton residents and visitors with a further 8.3 kilometres of high-quality shared paths for riding and walking.
While the Glenfield Beach Drive Shared Path is being constructed detailed designs for stage 2 of the project, the $1.4 million 3.5km long Chapman Road Shared Path, are being finalised so construction can progress in 2022-23.
The Geraldton Cycling Network Expansion Project also includes a $2.62 million 4.5 kilometre shared path to be constructed on Brand Highway from Tarcoola Beach to Cape Burney.
The Western Australian Government is facilitating investment of $347 million to upgrade and construct more high-quality infrastructure for safe and connected riding and walking across over the next four years.
Commenting on the work, Western Australian Transport Minister, Rita Saffioti stated “for more than a decade the community has been asking for an off-road shared path so they can safely ride, walk or scoot from Cape Burney in the south to Drummond Cove in the north.
"We know how important this is, which is why we … are delivering more than $340 million of walking and cycling upgrades around Western Australia over the next four years, supporting local jobs and encouraging more people to walk and ride."
