Women Sport Australia to deliver Mentoring Program through 2023
Women Sport Australia has announced that they will again be delivering their mentoring program in 2023 and are introducing new elements to the program - increasing the opportunity for participants to engage and get even more from their mentoring experience.
Women Sport Australia’s mentoring program provides opportunities for women to form mentoring partnerships with senior female and male sports leaders to build their confidence and skills in networking and performing across a myriad of roles in Australian sport.
WSA will begin with a Women in Sport Mentoring Workshop. Following the workshop mentees will then be matched with mentors for one-on-one interaction and mentoring.
Six months later a second session and networking event will be held. At that session, mentees and mentors will again come together to share their insights and experiences and continue to expand their networks via attendance at the WSA industry event.
To help facilitate the program in 2023 WSA have introduced the Mentorloop platform which will streamline communications and co-ordination for all participants.
Dates have been finalised for their initial workshops which will be in-person sessions held in March in Brisbane and Melbourne. Dates for the 2023 Women in Sport Mentoring Program workshops are:
• Brisbane Session: Tuesday 21st March, 1pm-5pm
• Melbourne Session: Tuesday 28th March, 9am- 12.30pm
Sydney and online sessions will be announced shortly.
Program Structure
Mentees are assessed and carefully matched with mentors to maximise the learning and development. Mentees attend a Professional Workshop focusing on:
Being a Confident Leader
The Art of Networking
Boards and Committees
Career Pathways
There are four one-to-one sessions between the mentor and mentee between facilitated sessions and regular program communication provides guidance to mentors and mentees, ensuring progress is made. This includes a personal check-in from a Women Sport Australia Director for both mentee and mentor and the use of the Mentorloop platform.
The program concludes with a second facilitated session, where both mentee and mentor attend to share insights and experiences, followed by attendance at an industry networking event.
Mentoring is a proven and practical way to encourage the participation and advancement of women in the workforce.
The creation of supportive ‘role-model’ based relationships allows a more experienced individual to guide, encourage and support the mentee as she strives to achieve identified aspirations and goals.
