Whangarei District Council introduces climbing spheres on Hatea Loop
Whangarei District Council’s Parks Team have completed the installation of three geodesic globes on the city’s Hatea Loop.
The installation of the Kompan Climbing Bloqx structures, giant three-dimensional shapes dotted with climbing grips, are part of ongoing upgrades to the Hatea Loop.
The structures offer children the opportunity to challenge themselves physically, create paths and adventures among the Bloqx, or simply engage socially with friends within this setting.
Council WDC Parks Architect Jed Whitaker explained “we are creating activation spaces in safe locations that allow children to run ahead of their parents and play as they wait for them to catch-up.
“Activities that provide short challenges that can be enjoyed within a small window of time.
"The Climbing Bloqx, designed by Kompan, manufactured in Denmark and installed by Northland Parkcare, are challenging for children yet quite artistic in form."
They cost $34,000 and add to activities around the park that include exercise equipment, seats, drinking fountains, an outdoor gym, heritage trail and art park.
