Western Sydney mini golf attraction sold to property developers for $130 million
Putt Putt, the landmark mini golf attraction in the Western Sydney suburb of Ermington, has been sold to property developers for $130 million.
Believed to be one of the biggest land sales in western Sydney in 2014, the sale of the 4.8 hectare site by Parramatta City Council, has been described as "a sad loss for Western Sydney families."
The popular mini-golf attraction has operated for 45 years, with the sale to the Chinese-backed Aqualand Australia set to see the site make way for high rise development with 940 units earmarked for the site.
It is understood there were 11 parties interested in the site and Parramatta chief executive officer Greg Dyer said the rezoning for apartments had already gone through.
“The sale will allow us to invest in new assets that will better meet future community needs. It’s about maximising the value of our assets for the benefit of our ratepayers and residents.
Putt Putt offers three 18-hole mini golf courses – Waterways, Jungle Trail and Fun Run – themed with colourful characters and wild jungle animals.
It offers group play and children's parties and attracts around 120 bookings a day during school holidays. Local schools also use the facility for activity days.
