Western Australians encouraged to participate in WA Bike Month celebrations

Western Australians are being encouraged to participate in WA Bike Month 2022 with 41 events planned around the State.

WA Bike Month 2022 is the State’s annual celebration of bike riding, delivered by the Department of Transport and administered by WA’s peak body for cycling, WestCycle.

The State Government has allocated more than $50,000 in grants for local governments, community organisations, schools and workplaces to promote active travel for transport, fun and a healthier lifestyle.

With funded events including breakfasts, bike tours, trail rides, scavenger hunts, and safety and skill building sessions, there is something for people of all riding abilities.

Two major events being held include a Sunset River Bike Ride in the City of Bayswater and a Mountain Bike Day in the Shire of Collie.

WA Bike Month 2022 is the State’s annual celebration of bike riding, delivered by the Department of Transport and administered by WA’s peak body for cycling, WestCycle.

WA Transport Minister Rita Saffioti notes “every year, we see Bike Month becoming more diverse and this year celebrations are stretching from Mukinbudin in the Wheatbelt, to Albany in the Great Southern, to Geraldton in the Mid-West.

“As well as being the perfect opportunity for people of all ages and abilities to ride a bike for the first time or reacquaint themselves with all the benefits that cycling has to offer, the funded events will help support community organisations all over the State.

“Our Government is facilitating a record $347 million dollar investment in active transport infrastructure around WA over the next four years, creating a more connected cycling network which is making it easier than ever for us to get around on our bikes.

“We want to make bike riding a safe, convenient and widely accepted mode of transport, and I would encourage all Western Australians to give it a try by joining in on the Bike Month fun this October.”
