West Tamar Council looks for consultants input on future of Riverside Aquatic Centre
Mindful that its Riverside Aquatic Centre is close to reaching the end of its useful life and will require replacement (or extensive upgrades to the pools, water slide and associated amenities), West Tamar Council in northern Tasmania is seeking consultancy services to develop a future aquatic centre strategy.
With the West Tamar Council Asset Management Plan 2017 having indicated that the Riverside Aquatic Centre (RAC) is reaching its use-by date, the Council is aiming to develop a strategy that will review and determine the current and future provision of aquatic facilities that are appropriate and sustainable for the current and future needs of the West Tamar community.
The 2017 Plan notes that the Centre faces structural, accessibility, programming and maintenance issues identified as barriers to providing quality swimming facilities and experiences into the future that will enhance the lifestyle of residents and visitors to the West Tamar.
Owned by West Tamar Council and managed by an external contractor, the original facility was opened in 1967, with the learner’s pool being added in the early 1980s and a waterslide and plunge pool added in 1985.
Council and council contractors have operated the facility since that time.
Patronage numbers of the RAC have been on average 23,400 entries per year. Using these figures and assuming the numbers will grow over time as the population increases and the Centre is upgraded and therefore attracts more patrons (average 32,000) the Council can determine the cost subsidy.
The expected complexity of the proposed project is the determination of location and the sustainable provision of aquatic facility components to meet the communities’ future needs and expectations.
Tenders close at 5.00pm on Thursday, 5th March 2020.
