Waters named new Chairman of Cricket World Cup organising commitee

Cricket Australia and New Zealand Cricket have confirmed that Ralph Waters will assume the role of Chairman of the organising committee for the 2015 World Cup a position left vacant following the death of James Strong earlier this month.

Waters, who previously served as Deputy Chairman, will now step up to lead role in overseeing preparations for the 2015 tournament.

Waters, recognised as one of New Zealand's most prominent businessmen, will bring a wealth of experience and knowledge to the trans-Tasman venture.

He is currently the chairman of Fletcher Building and Woolworths, as well as a director of Fonterra Co-Operative and Asciano.

He explained "like myself, James had lived and worked in Australia and New Zealand, and was determined to put on a truly world class tournament in 2015.

"I share his vision and will work closely with the ICC (International Cricket Council), Cricket Australia and New Zealand Cricket to deliver a successful tournament for cricket fans around the world."

ICC President Alan Isaac added "James' passion and expertise will be missed by us all, but I know Ralph shares the same love for the game and together we will deliver a great tournament."
