Warner Bros. Movie World announces new DC Comics attraction

Gold Coast theme park Warner Bros. Movie World has announced that it is to develop a world-first DC Comics ‘Super-Villain’ themed area.

Set to open in October, DC Comics Super-Villains Unleashed will be an immersive themed area centred on a new looping ride to be known as the Doomsday Destroyer.

Industry insiders have speculated that the ride will be supplied by Switzerland-based Intamin Amusement Rides and potentially be a Suspended Twin Hammer ride, a modern take on the classic 'pirate ship' style of attraction featuring 32 riders with dangling feet, spinning through a range of pre-programmed effects including 360 degree loops.

Advice that the ride would be “looping’ would appear to rule a 2013 proposal for a 145-metre-tall observation and free-fall tower, suggested in an online guest survey.

Anticipating that the with DC Comics Super-Villains Unleashed and the Doomsday Destroyer will offer Movie World guests a range of unique experiences, Warner Bros. Movie World General Manager, Greg Yong commented “there has always been a focus on DC Comics Super Heroes at Warner Bros. Movie World but these new attractions will showcase the Super-Villains from the DC Universe.

“DC Comics Super-Villains Unleashed and the Doomsday Destroyer will unleash an army of DC Super-Villains upon the park with the aim of causing mass destruction in their wake.

“This is the first of a number of significant developments for Movie World.”
