Wallace and Gromit bring their World of Invention to Scienceworks

Animated inventor Wallace and his faithful dog Gromit are to display their inventions at Melbourne's Scienceworks as part of the national premiere of the interactive exhibition 'Wallace & Gromit's World of Invention'.
Melbourne's Scienceworks will be the first Australian venue to welcome Wallace and Gromit from May 2012, followed by Sydney's Powerhouse Museum in December 2012.
The exhibition showcases how innovation and inventiveness are a part of everyday life through a series of interactive exhibits modelled on the devices built by much loved TV character Wallace; a resourceful and creative inventor helped by his clever companion, Gromit the dog.
Museum Victoria Chief Executive Dr Patrick Greene explained "Scienceworks is a place that celebrates science and innovation, so we're very excited to have the chance to showcase the work of one of the world's most unusual and famous fictional inventors."
Once inside the exhibition, visitors will be able to explore 62 Wallaby Street, the home of Wallace and Gromit, and have a go at some of the pair's more colourful inventions, including concocting original smoothie recipes with the Blend-o-matic and changing TV channels using the step-by-step mechanics of the Tellyscope II.
Wallace & Gromit's World of Invention also introduces new inventions such as the Karaoke Disco Shower, where visitors can test their vocal chords with a full musical accompaniment.
The Australian tour of Wallace & Gromit's World of Invention is generously supported by IP Australia, the federal government agency that administers Australia's patents, trade marks, registered designs and plant breeder's rights. Much of the exhibition content explores the importance of protecting ideas and inventions.
Dr Greene added "IP Australia's support has been invaluable in bringing this exhibition to Australia and in helping our team at Scienceworks, and our partners at the Powerhouse, to give it an Australian flavour."
Playing the part of Wallace's apprentice, visitors can learn about the importance of intellectual property through a series of 'Idea Stations', where they can explore their creativity by inventing household tools, logos and even a character trade mark.
Wallace & Gromit's World of Invention will open on 19th May and will run until 11th November 2012.
