Walking events on the calendar

The Qatar Olympic Committee (QOC) will mark World Walking Day tomorrow (31st October) at Doha's Aspire Park.

One of a series of World Walking Day events that take place around the world throughout the year, the event has been organised by the Trim and Fitness International Sport for All Association (TAFISA) since 1991.

World Walking Day aims to advance the many benefits of walking for people of all ages, with TAFISA highlighting that "walking is a mass phenomenon occupying a dominant place in the world of active living."

TAFISA member organisations from all continents organise their events at different times of the year.

In Australia, World Walking Day will be celebrated on Saturday 10th May 2014, while local organiser also promoted National Walk to Work Day - an annual event to help employers and employees to build regular walking into their daily routines.

Being held for the 15th time in 2013, the National Walk to Work Day is to be staged on Friday 8th November 2013.

TAFISA identifies itself as the leading international 'Sport for All' organisation, aiming to achieve an active world by globally promoting and facilitating access for every person to Sport for All and physical activity.

TAFISA's primary focus is on:

Lobbying internationally for Sport for All,

Providing and coordinating programs and events,

Providing networking and experience transfer platforms.
