WA Recreation Reform Project

The Centre for Sport and Recreation Research (CSRR) at Curtin University is conducting an independent study to assist in formulating the direction of recreation reform in Western Australia over the next two years.
In May 2006, WA Department of Sport and Recreation undertook a strategic analysis of the active, non competitive, recreation sector. Based on industry feedback, a Recreation Reform agenda was established. At that time, the key agenda items that organisations used to guide their strategic activities during 2006 â 2009 were:
1. Working partnership agreements with peak recreation organisations
2. In partnership with recreation peak bodies and service providers, devise strategies to support business improvement outcomes
3. Enhance the dissemination of quality data and research
4. Expedite the development of industry standards including immediately the development of Adventure Activity Standards
5. Seek to initiate a strategic review of the current education and training frameworks for recreation
6. Develop new consultation modes to improve advocacy and communication flow
7. Improve the profile of Recreation
8. Strengthen recreation planning and influence across other portfolios and disciplines
9. Further develop business linkages to improve product development and promotion of recreation
The CSRR survey seeks to update the 2006 agenda and is described as âan important initiative for the industry and industry comments are key to ensuring the right recreation agenda is determined.?
The survey also asks which industry association respondents most identify with.
