WA Day Festival recognised as Public Event of the Year

Western Australia’s annual celebration has been named the Western Australian Public Event of the Year at the Meeting and Events Australia 2017 Industry Awards.

The WA Day Festival 2017 saw more than 115,000 people come together to experience and celebrate Western Australia through a combination of all ages activities, food, entertainment and music.

WA Day Festival 2017 comprised free public events at Elizabeth Quay, Fremantle, Mandurah, Bunbury, Albany, Kalgoorlie-Boulder, Geraldton and Port Hedland.

Mike Anghie, Chairman of Celebrate WA, said it was fantastic to see the WA Day Festival recognised for its contribution to the state as it was now a permanent fixture in the annual calendar of major events.

Anghie advised “we would like to thank Lux Events and everyone else who helped us stage the spectacular 2017 WA Day Festival and celebrate this great state.

“A special thanks to our generous major supporters BHP, The Government of Western Australia and Lotterywest, which enable us to put on this wonderful free event each year.”

Kirsty Mainstone, Event Director of Lux Events, said their event management team was thrilled to see the West Australian public strongly embrace the 2017 festival and they were all excited about delivering WA Day Festival 2018 in less than two months time.

Mainstone added “WA Day Festival 2018 is set to be bigger and better than ever with a host of exciting new activations, entertainment and activities.”

On Sunday 3rd June this year, WA Day Festival will see Elizabeth Quay abuzz with a fun filled family day. Highlights include a bigger than ever, all-inclusive kids zone featuring a silent disco, gold panning from Perth Mint and a mascot race.
