Voyager II lands in Rotorua

The recent landing of a UFO flying saucer at the top of the Skyline Gondolas in Rotorua, New Zealand marked the official launch of Space Dome Technologies Ltd's 64 seat 4D simulator.
The simulator, known as the Voyager, was officially launched at Skyline Skyrides at a special function attended by over 100 industry government officials, invitees and staff. Guests were treated to a flight in the Voyager ll and saw two shows; the first called 'Scenic Adventures of the South' and the second 3D CGI movie called 'Xenopod'.
Space Dome Managing Director Dennis Hyde, stated that this was a milestone in the company's development and that he looks forward to the placement of many more Voyager ll simulators in countries around the world.
The development of the Voyager is the culmination of a decade-long journey by the developer and founder of the company, Dennis Hyde.
A Voyager prototype at the Museum of Transport and Technology (MOTAT) in Auckland, installed back in 2006, is still in operations and accommodates over 200,000 passengers a year. From this prototype, Dennis and his small team then focused their attention on a new product that Dennis was determined would represent the first of a new generation of 4D simulators.
As Hyde explains "we have achieved a thrilling virtual reality ride that can cater to 250 passengers per hour and one of our big points of difference is that unlike other simulators where seats might move or a platform within a building might move, here we have the whole ship 'flying'. This sensation of flight is achieved through the very latest in hydraulic technology and delivers us motion of speeds of up to 1.5 metres per second and travel of approximately 2.5 metres at the wingtips."
Following the launch, Space Dome has reached an agreement with China-based 3D Technologies Ltd, with 3D Technologies set to build a minimum of 20 ships over the next five year for the domestic China market, particularly in museum and technology parks where 3D has existing commercial relationships. The agreement is limited to the China market and ships destined for other countries in Australasia and Asia will be assembled at Space Dome's Auckland factory.
Space Dome is now seeking to introduce the Voyager to the Australia market and sees that the product is suitable for existing small owner/operator park or tourism operators wishing to expand their business mix or to large high volume amusement parks.
