Volunteers sought for Canberra’s 2025 National Multicultural Festival
The ACT Government is encouraging members of the community to register to volunteer at the 2025 National Multicultural Festival, which runs 7th-9th February 2025.
ACT Minister for Multicultural Affairs, Michael Pettersson, said volunteers are an integral part of the beloved community-led event and noted “in 2024, the National Multicultural Festival set a new record, with 417,359 people attending - up from 380,563 in 2023 - so volunteers are vital to making the event the huge success that it is.
For President of the Australian Multicultural Action Network, Ravi Krishnamurthy, volunteering for the National Multicultural Festival is one of the highlights of his year.
Krishnamurthy – who was highly commended for his work in diversity and inclusion by the ACT Government in 2023 – urged all those considering volunteering for the 2025 National Multicultural Festival to “go for it, without a doubt!”
Krishnamurthy has been volunteering for the festival for over a decade, describing it as a “rewarding and dynamic” experience that always inspires him adding “Volunteering here is truly one-of-a-kind. It’s where the entire world gathers in one city, celebrating unity and a shared appreciation for culture. There’s something incredibly powerful about being involved with this event, and the best part? The people you meet, the stories you hear, and the experiences you gain. It’s an opportunity like no other to step into a vibrant, multicultural celebration and make a significant impact.”
Each year, hundreds of people volunteer at the National Multicultural Festival in different capacities – from offering general support on the ground to acting as stage assistants and masters of ceremonies to ensure that events go smoothly.
Minister Pettersson added “Volunteering at the National Multicultural Festival offers people a meaningful way to give back, while making new friends and connections…and having a great time in the process.
“The way in which Canberrans continue to embrace this event – now in its 27th year – is something to be proud of, and we’re incredibly grateful to the volunteers who help us celebrate our diverse and inclusive nation. I encourage Canberrans to get involved.”
The National Multicultural Festival welcomes volunteers from all backgrounds – the only requirement is that they must be over 18 years of age.
Volunteers are being sought for a range of roles, including:
General Support
Information Tent Assistants
Volunteer Hub Assistants
Reception / Site Office Assistants
Masters of Ceremonies
Stage Managers
Stage Assistants
Precinct Assistants
Program Team Assistants
Festival Set Up and Pack Down Support
Volunteers are given training and support to help them succeed in their roles and are provided with a free festival t-shirt and hat, as well as a food voucher.
Volunteers will also be invited to two special celebratory events – a welcome function and a post-festival celebration – to acknowledge their hard work and contribution to the event.
People who wish to register as volunteers for the 2025 National Multicultural Festival should do so by 16th December. More information about volunteering – and the different volunteer positions available – can be found at: www.multiculturalfestival.com.au/get-involved/volunteers
