Victorian Institute of Sport Chair steps down from role

The Victorian Institute of Sport (VIS) Chair Nataly Matijevic stepped down from her role on 15th March 2025, concluding nine years of significant leadership and strategic contributions to the organisation.

Matijevic joined the VIS Board in 2016 and took over as VIS Chair in 2018. During her tenure, she led the institute through critical milestones, including the 2021 State Budget outcome, which delivered the first funding increase for the VIS since 2008. This vital funding allowed the VIS to support all Victorian-based athletes categorised by their National Sporting Organisations (NSO) and nearly doubled the size of its athlete and staff cohort.

Her leadership saw the development of a refreshed strategic plan and a review of the institute’s core values, vision, and mission.

Matijevic played a central role in guiding the VIS through its 30th anniversary in 2020 and led the organisation through the challenges presented by the COVID-19 pandemic to ensure continued support for athletes during a disruptive period.

A key aspect of her legacy includes positioning the VIS for future success on the pathway to the Brisbane 2032 Olympic and Paralympic Games.

Matijevic oversaw the successful transition of leadership, including the appointment of Chief Executive Nicole Livingstone OAM, following the retirement of long-serving Chief Executive  Anne Marie Harrison after 18 years in the role.

Livingstone acknowledged Matijevic's impact noting "Nataly’s leadership has helped position the VIS for a strong and sustainable future. We are grateful for her commitment and invaluable contributions over the past nine years."
