VenuesWest lost property benefits people in need

Like any venue, the HBF Arena and HBF Stadium in Perth amass a quantity of lost items left by patrons, users and members.

For those items that aren’t claimed or where owners can’t be located, VenuesWest donates the unclaimed items to the Boab Network, a not-for profit organisation focused on supporting Indigenous people from the Mowanjum Community in Derby.

The Boab Network was formed seven years ago by the Mission and Outreach Group at the Floreat Uniting Church.

Each year, volunteers from the Boab Network spend their school holidays working at the ‘op shop’, giving the unclaimed items from VenuesWest facilities to people in need.

VenuesWest Chairman Graham Partridge OAM explains “every quarter VenuesWest receives over 1,000 pieces of lost property across its public venues HBF Arena and HBF Stadium, with the majority of these remaining unclaimed.”

Lost items include goggles, jumpers, track suits, t-shirts, shoes, floaties and numerous other items, which have become invaluable to the local community in Derby.

Partridge adds “giving back to the community is very important to our organisation and goes hand in hand with our core business values of acting with awareness of our impact on the environment and making every effort to use our resources efficiently.”

VenuesWest also donates proceeds received from our monthly free dress days to local charitable organisations and groups.

VenuesWest directly supports charitable events such as Relay for Life, Pink Triathlon, The Bikers Charity Ride, Guide Dogs WA and provides regular health and fitness talks and venue tours for schools and local community groups.

Partridge states “I am very proud to be associated with an organisation that is focused on giving back to the community by helping local community groups.”

VenuesWest is an intrinsic part of the West Australian community having serviced over 2.06 million community patrons in 2013/14 by delivering sport and recreational opportunities to individuals and families.

VenuesWest is Western Australia’s provider of premier sports, recreation and entertainment venues and its portfolio includes the new and world class Perth Arena and the redeveloped nib Stadium. Recently the State Government confirmed that the new Perth Stadium would join the VenuesWest portfolio when completed in 2018.

These are in addition to HBF Stadium, HBF Arena, WA Athletics Stadium, WA Basketball Centre, Midvale Speeddome, Perth Motorplex, Champion Lakes Regatta Centre and the WA Rugby Centre, with the State Netball Centre and the Western Australian Institute of Sports High Performance Service Centre (currently under construction).
