Vegemite SurfGroms set to power into second year

Having introduced over 8,000 Australian youngsters to junior surfing and beach safety in its first year, Vegemite SurfGroms, the world's first national junior participation surfing program is poised to hit Australian beaches for a second year.

Vegemite SurfGroms offers youngsters aged five to 12 years old an opportunity to learn to surf while developing strong ocean awareness and beach safety skills at a very influential period in their lives, that they will enjoy and embrace for a lifetime.

Since its launch in October last year, more than 8,000 Australian children have experienced the thrill of surfing for the first time through the program. In time for the September school holidays, registrations are now open for the 2012/13 summer with Vegemite SurfGroms programs available through the

Surfing Australia Surf Schools Network with more than 80 delivery centres around the country. Parents can register their children through the Vegemite SurfGroms website which will provide contact details for their closest delivery centre.

Introducing the 2012/13 program Surfing Australia Chief Executive Andrew Stark stated "Vegemite SurfGroms has been an amazing success story in Australian sport.

"To achieve 8000 participants and welcome such prestigious partners in the first year of the program was an outstanding result we are all very proud of.

"We very much look forward to the day a Vegemite SurfGrom holds up the World Championship trophy."

In an historic first for Vegemite, the SurfGroms program marked its first sports sponsorship for almost 90 years and Kraft Foods Managing Director for Groceries Darren O'Brien said the organisation was proud to back the program for another three years.

O'Brien added "Vegemite is excited to continue our successful partnership with Surfing Australia on Vegemite SurfGroms and look forward to another three years of strong success and growth.

"Vegemite SurfGroms is a natural fit for our brand and an important program for Australian kids and families. We were excited to see so many kids enrol in VEGEMITE SurfGroms last year and expect the 2012/13 season to be even bigger and better with the program continuing to go from strength to strength."

Vegemite SurfGroms is also backed by major support sponsor Quiksilver and every child signing up will receive a great Quiksilver backpack bursting with surfing merchandise including a Quiksilver rash vest, hat, water bottle and logbook, plus two WAHU beach products and a tube of Vegemite Spread.

Vegemite SurfGroms offers an 8-12 hour surfing program delivered by licensed Surfing Australia Surf Schools and their highly qualified instructors. There will be a significant focus on ocean awareness and beach safety skills, with understanding surf conditions, surf etiquette, first aid, and rescue skills all built into five achievement levels of Vegemite SurfGroms.
