Vale: Geoff Gill, founder and owner of the Geelong Aquatic Centre
Geoff Gill, the founder and owner of one Geelong’s leading swim school, has died at the age of 80.
Remembered as a loving family man who “would do anything for anyone”, he died on Christmas Day.
His wife and business partner, Deb Gill, told the Geelong Advertiser that her husband was a “caring and generous person” who loved being around people, going on to say “the amount of tributes that are coming in for him, from all parts of the country, has been unbelievable.
“He never had an argument with anyone and would do anything for anyone.
“He was a highly respected member of the community and everyone loved him.”
Geoff and Deb Gill started the Geelong Aquatic Centre just over 25 years ago, expanding the program to take in more than 2000 children, 40 schools and 700 classes a week.
Deb Gill went on to say that her husband “loved being at the pool, he just loved being around people.”
Geoff Gill’s life will be celebrated at the Geelong Memorial Park Chapel in Armstrong Creek at 11.30am on Tuesday 3rd January.
Those in attendance are encouraged to wear a colourful shirt and to consider donating to Diabetes Australia in lieu of flowers.
