Upgrades to resume at Whyalla sport venues

Whyalla Council is to reactivate a masterplan for sport and recreation in the municipality.

Council Chief Executive Peter Peppin said it was planned to finish work at three sites, Memorial Oval, Jubilee Park and on the city's foreshore.

Peppin said once those upgrades were completed, it was planned to upgrade other venues such as the velodrome in order for Whyalla to attract high-level competition.

Peppin exaplained "(we want to) get the full benefits of what we can achieve through these projects already in train.

"I'd say in the case of Memorial Oval, it's probably 80 or 90% complete, but if we can finish it off then it could be the facility where a major event could take place.

"There's the possibility of a SANFL match taking place up here next year."
