Upgrades to Gorman’s Hill Park playground in Bathurst meet ‘Everyone Can Play’ principles
Bathurst Regional Council advise that work is underway to create a vibrant new inclusive play space at Gorman’s Hill Park that meets the ‘Everyone Can Play’ principles.
Everyone Can Play is a best practice resource for councils, community leaders, landscape architects and passionate local residents. It is a reference guide for creating world-class playspaces, designed to include everyone in the community.
Mayor Robert Taylor said Gorman’s Hill Park will be a wonderful recreational space for the community to enjoy and noted “the upgrade of the park demonstrates Council’s commitment towards providing play spaces within Bathurst’s residential communities that meet the principles of Everyone Can Play.
“Council’s desire is to provide inclusive play spaces for everyone – young and old, families and carers, and people of all abilities and backgrounds,”.
Commissioner Open Space Fiona Morrison is thrilled to be investing in the regions and see the continued impact of quality open space that the Everyone Can Play program delivers.
“This project demonstrates the principles - Can I get there, Can I play and Can I stay, and will have a long-lasting legacy for locals, she said.”
The upgrade works at Gorman’s Hill Park is to include:
Installation of new playground equipment
New seating
Path installation works
Rubber and organic softfall installation
Plantings
Irrigation
The works are funded by a $200,000 grant from NSW Government’s through the Everyone Can Play program, and the project is expected to be completed in August this year.
