Upgrades commence on Wilsons Promontory’s Tidal River Visitor Centre

Upgrades have commenced on Wilsons Promontory’s Tidal River Visitor Centre to attract even more people to one of Victoria’s most popular national parks.

Victorian Minister for Tourism, Sport and Major Events Steve Dimopoulos announced the next part of the $23 million Wilsons Promontory Revitalisation project is under way.

Improvements to the visitor centre will include a building extension, interior upgrades, landscaping, external paths and information kiosks to make visitor experiences more accessible and sustainable.

An additional $1.7 million was invested from the Victoria's Great Outdoors and Changing Places programs to include a fully accessible toilet block and changing facilities to improve restroom facilities.

The first part of the Wilsons Promontory Revitalisation project, to upgrade the popular Prom Wildlife Walk, was completed in December 2024. This involved resurfacing of the two-kilometre track and installing seated rest areas along the way.

Serving as the main visitor hub at Wilsons Promontory, Tidal River is home to numerous accommodation options including the most popular and best-equipped camping ground in the Wilsons Promontory National Park.

Covering 50,000 hectares at the southernmost tip of mainland Australia, Wilsons Promontory is one of Victoria’s most popular national parks, welcoming more than 500,000 visitors each year who enjoy the picturesque beaches, hiking, wildlife and scenery.
