Parks Victoria combats anti-social activities at Wilsons Promontory National Park

Parks Victoria has praised visitors for their behaviour at Wilsons Promontory National Park over the summer holiday season.

In response to previous reports of illegal and anti-social activities at the popular holiday location, Parks Victoria introduced targeted enforcement patrols for the peak visitor period.

Parks Victoria’s Regional Enforcement Coordinator, Martin Downs said Enforcement Officers spoke to hundreds of visitors to the Park over the peak holiday period, and that, as a result, overall visitor and camper behaviour was very good with only a few reports of antisocial behaviour and illegal activity.

Downs said it was encouraging to see people enjoying the great outdoors but noted that it was disappointing that some people continue to ignore information, signage and disrespect the reasonable use and enjoyment of other park users.

Offences observed for which Infringement Notices were issued include one $322 for a dog in a national park and six $806 for driving on a signed closed road. A number of verbal and written warnings have also been issued for camping without a permit and the use of drones which is illegal in all national parks without a permit.

Parks Victoria is encouraging all visitors to parks and forests to research their trips and destinations thoroughly prior to departure to get the most out of their holiday and avoid possible penalties. Park, forest and Police Officers will be actively patrolling and enforcing regulations during the holiday season to ensure that all visitors are conducting their activities safely and within regulations.
