Upgraded Nunawading Gymnastics and Sports Club to lift participation
The upgraded Nunawading Gymnastics and Sports Club has been reopened by Federal Minister for Sport Mark Arbib and Member for Deakin Mike Symon.
Senator Arbib highlighted that the Australian Government provided $220,000 to the Club for the facility upgrades, stating "the Federal Government is committed to funding sport and recreation facilities and programs at a local level.
"It is extremely important to encourage participation for Australians of all ages in sport and physical activities. This upgraded facility will ensure Nunawading residents have more opportunities to get active."
Mike Symon added that the upgrade was a great result for the Nunawading community and sporting clubs, stating "the upgrade has allowed the Nunawading Gymnastics and Sports Club to carry out a number of improvements.
"Nunawading locals will have access to new gymnastics equipment including uneven and parallel bars and a pommel horse. A sprung floor and wall mirrors have also been installed.
"This is a fantastic opportunity for children and adults in the Nunawading community to begin or continue their involvement with gymnastics at a first-class facility."
Senator Arbib went on to explain that the Federal Government was supporting a range of programs to increase and support participation including the Active After-School Communities Program and participation funding for national sporting organisations.
"We want to get all Australians out of the lounge room and into their backyards and sporting fields. New faculties and continued funding of important participation programs ensure that Australians are provided with the best opportunity to get involved in sport and physical activities."
